He’s been diagnosed with a lung condition and his doctor explained to me that I should get Allergy Proof Mattress Covers for his bed. However, I don’t know the first thing about where I should get these and how much they cost or anything.

Check your local phone book: A lot of places that sell linens will have dust-mite resistant bedding.
Barring that, wash frequently so you don;t get a build-up.
Good luck!

All you need to do is go to Wal-Mart and get a plastic mattress cover. They also have similar things for pillows. It is not expensive and easy to protect your child. The biggest culprit with dust mites is carpet. If possible, put wood flooring in his room. Keeping it clean is easy and will help prevent flare ups. It worked for me.
