I have enough disorders in my life I’ve just realized I’ve had this and haven’t been medicated for it I’ve not taken meds for bipolar since I keep having weird reactions like I feel sick when I take any pills =/

@iamblackthorne Or perhaps you just haven’t done a lot of research. CBT has effectively helped a lot of people with GAD, and they have long term remission, actually around 50%, a great statistic, which is why many people say not to so casually push drugs. Of course if this doesn’t work this SSRIs and SNRIs may be used as a first line with the help of Busparine or Benzos. Because of the high likely hood of Gad to be co-morbid (90%) it’s very hard to treat, and diagnosis.

I did a great deal of research.
The people I was addressing were the ones that felt medication is bad, regardless of the circumstances, and claiming that anxiety disorders are simply a fairy tale.
I do engage in CBT. It has been very effective, but it is not enough for the anxiety.
Tthere is one fact that I did leave out. I also have PTSD; it is severe and chronic. It will probably never go away, but through CBT I have a tight rein on it.

yeah. before I was taking meds I was so emotionally numb and disconnected (a common symptoms of depression). Antidepressants actually reverse this. Also SSRIs make me feel even more sedated and make my depression worse.

Take a neuroscience course. Anxiety disorders are biochemical in nature. Yes, in some cases, therapy and reducing stress can fix the underlying biochemical problem (too little seratonin most likely), however in many cases medication needs to be added to either jump start treatment or treat “residual” symptoms. In addition, some people are so predisposed to anxiety disorders that relatively minor stressors can cause anxiety disorders.

Benzodiazepines will seems like a godsend in the shortrun, but ultimately a curse far worse than the disease in the long.

I’d really like to try CBT. Thanks for sharing.

CBT is great… it really can do a lot. Just be committed to it, committed to getting well. It’s not always easy, and it takes time. If you decide to try it, be good to yourself and give it time. It takes effort, but it can definitely be worth it.
I wish you the best.

I’m have bipolar, it’s just that GAD is part of the mania.

I don’t know about medication.. I used to suffer from GAD, but I never wanted to let my ‘mood’ depend on a pill. I think meds are a weak way out.. Tame your thoughts, rationalize your thoughts and take back control over yourself, your mind. It sure as hell worked for me, I took back control.
Do all that, don’t do ‘drugs’ ;-)
But that’s just my opinion.

This really sucks. I’ve had general anxiety for years, but in 2008, it exploded, and I was diagnosed with OCD, GAD, depression, and ASD
CanadaUpcastXSLT on May 8, 2010 at 5:00 pm
@CanadaUpcastXSLT What works for you? I tried alot of medications, but mainly antipsychotics. I’ve only been, and still currently on one antidepressant since treatment. i also took klonopin but that didn’t help me. My psychiatrist said if my prozac doesn’t work by next month, they’ll probably change my medication
CanadaUpcastXSLT on May 8, 2010 at 5:01 pm
@CanadaUpcastXSLT Have any of you tried CBT? I’m in it, but still my anxiety is pretty bad. What medication’s worked for you guys with anxiety?
