I’ve been dealing with this problem since I was 10 years old. My friends came up to me and told me that I had bad breath when I was in the 5th grade. I am 19 years old now and I still do not know what is wrong. I know my siblings and parents smell my breath because sometimes they cover their noses in a sneaky way. I brush my teeth twice a day. Floss daily. Scrape my tongue with a tongue scraper, then I go back over it with my toothbrush and toothpaste. I heard that gargling with mouthwash can cause bad breath so I gargle with diluted hydrogen peroxide. I chew gum but my breath still smells bad. I do not smoke or drink. I do not have gingivitis. If I did my dentist would have said so. I have better oral hygiene than my younger brother and he doesn’t have bad breath. My younger brother doesn’t even floss his teeth, yet he has fresh breath. When I was 16 I had the courage to tell my dentist about this, but she said that I had great oral hygiene and that the smell wasn’t coming from my mouth. Since then, I have just said forget it. My dentist probably doesn’t even know I have bad breath, because I never talk. She’s always saying.."you are so quiet." I have no social life at all, no friends or anything. I go out of my way to keep from being in contact with other people and that’s tough because I am in college. I cover my mouth when I talk, so that people won’t smell my breath. I’ve even had suicidal thoughts. People think..oh it’s not that bad. But imagine having bad breath 24/7 and everytime you talk people cover their noses or make rude comments and think that you don’t brush your teeth. Just because I have bad breath doesn’t mean I don’t brush my teeth. Think about how you can’t talk to someone face to face or have relationship with someone without them holding their breath or pulling their top lip to their nostrils. All I want is someone to help me. I don’t want to give up. I know I can get rid of this. Can anyone tell me what may be wrong? I would be thankful for any bit of advice.
Juan I do not eat red meats at all. I only eat chicken and turkey.
No my dentist didn’t say that I didn’t have bad breath she just said that I have great oral hygiene. I never said she didn’t say that I didn’t have bad breath.
I have bad breath. Peopl at college has told me.
Gracinda also in high school I was known as the girl with the bad breath. How dare you tell me this is in my head. You don’t know what I have been through. You don’t know how depressed I get. How much I sit here and cry.
i used to to brush my teeth twice a day and use mouth wash, and i had really bad breath, just recently (4 days ago) i got a tongue piercing and because of this i have had to up my oral hygiene , using using mouth wash after everything i eat an drink etc.
basically i dont think its my oral hygiene that is the issue, but i have really bad breath.
i was just wondering if any one knew what was causing this , or what i could do to help?
i have to be constantly chewing gum and mints..this is like all the time , even straight after i brush my teeth, i use colgate and listerine.
Ok, so i got a letter from my othodontist today and he said alot about my lack of oral hygiene and i admit i dont brush as often as i should and i should change that.
But he has said i have an anterior openbite condition and i should either get 4 back teeth extracted or get surgery, and tbh i really dont wanna go through either of them.but he says if i remove the 4 teeth i will not need my wisdom teeth extracted. he also refers me to a gum specialist about "chronic periodontitis" and that i have "loss of alveolar bone height" … all in all, i have so many problems with my mouth and im really confused… is this all due to my lack of oral hygiene over the years or what? i just want some1 to comment on each of the different thingsi m going through… and, if i have really bad gums and stuff ( chronic periodontitis) how can i counter it now? and loss of bone? do i drink more milk and orange juice? its also very hard for me to floss with braces. so i dont know how to look after my teeth..
sorry about the massive rant, but i had my hopes all up about getting my braces off soon, and now i get this letter only to find out all these problems. :( im really confused on it all.
thanks a bunch guys.
I was using Aquafresh toothpaste, and had very consistent oral hygiene. I brushed twice a day, everyday, brushed my gums everytime. I will admit I don’t usually floss, but my gums were well-brushed. When I started using the Arm&Hammer toothpaste, which I realize is a baking soda toothpaste, my gums were rubbed raw and bled every time I brushed. Will they continue to do this as long as I use Arm & Hammer?
Back when I was younger, I lacked in the oral hygiene department. I barely brushed my teeth and rarely flossed. Nowadays, I have brush 2x a day for about 2 minutes (in circles), floss, and use mouthwash. Though my teeth are still yellow! When I say yellow, I mean really noticeably yellow teeth. Also, I’ve only begun to start brushing my teeth well recently (past month). What can I do better to help my teeth become less yellow? Thanks.
