First off I would have to ask where you live,, is it in a area that is known for outdoor recreation if so then go to companies that provide guide services or outfitters and try to start there by providing first aid services.
There are lots of places that may let you work with that certification if you approach them, look at the demographics of the recreation population and provide a professional resume and you are on the right track.

I need braces really bad but there is no way I can just dish out the kind of money that I’ve heard that they cost. I’ve also heard that braces are considered "cosmetic" and therefore it will be between hard and impossible to find insurance to help cover the cost. Is this true?

In the 1940′s 1950′s, 1960′s, 1970′s, 1980′s, 1990′s, people were not using Antibacterial lotions nor soap. Germs have not changed. Antibacterials do the opposite and create more germs. I cannot believe that there are Antibacterial wipes and sprays. America, save your money.
