I want to open a lab to make orthotics for podiatrists that cast them from their patient.Where should i start?

My friend is a local podiatrist. He send out roughly 300cast of patients who needs orthotics to a contractor lab monthly. The lab would bill his practice and he inturn bill the insurance and patients. There is good money in this business. But i dont know if there are regulation in starting a lab or production company. Where should i start?

You really do need to be knowledgeable about this subject as quite often adjusments have to be made to the final issue, as an experienced person you would need this knowledge to progress if for instance a leg splint would it need to be hinged? or lengthened/made shorter etc etc it really isnt as simple as copying a cast, can you not get a contact from your friend for work experience before embarking on such a huge ambition?
