How long does it take for a dry socket to heal?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted on June 9th, 2009. I have one dry socket and it is extremely painful. I just started searching about remedies & such.
I found a lot of sites saying that clove oil is a useful remedy.
When using clove oil for pain relief, how long do dry sockets last?
What’s the longest/shortest amount of time they can last?

Clove oil will help dull the pain a little. However it does nothing for the inflammation of the jawbone. Left untreated, which is what you would be doing, pain from dry socket will persist for 2 weeks or so.
Go back into the dentist who extracted the tooth. One application of Alvogyl usually takes care of dry socket.

Alvogyl contains clove oil as one of the ingredients. Your dentist will numb you up, clean out all the dead tissue from the socket, fill it with alvogyl and close it with stitches. That will usually clear up the problem. You will need to go back to have the Alvogyl removed in a few days.
