Center Quad Roll – Vastus Intermedius tip
The first and most influential area of your thigh you should work is the center quad, or rectus femoris (RF). It is the only quadriceps muscle that attaches to both the knee cap (patella) AND the hip bone (anterior inferior iliac spine). When the RF locks up, your hip stays tilted forward in an anterior pelvic tilt, which I like to call the “chicken walk.” You also will have trouble fully extending your leg to walk down stairs or down a hill, as the RF must lengthen to allow you to reach your foot lower. Release tension here and your knee pain and back pain will be diminished in intensity and frequency, if not altogether resolved.
